ABOUT ASHELYN WAGNER

When I was eight, my father gifted me my first novel, Anne of Green Gables, and I never looked back. Reading quickly became a hobby, an extracurricular, and a passion all at once. Inspired by Lucy Maude Montgomery, I dreamed of writing my own coming-of-age story, but after too many failed attempts (two) by the age of ten, I decided to give teaching a try instead. From hosting summer camps for the neighborhood kids (while I was still one myself) to working as a teacher’s assistant in high school and finally serving as a writing tutor for my peers at UC Santa Barbara, my desire to teach has remained inextinguishable.During my time at UCSB, where I earned my BA in English as well as a double minor in French and Professional Writing, my love for teaching became one with my fascination for eco-literature and my belief in the power of the written word.Prior to tutoring for UCSB and taking on the role of Editorial Intern for Thesocialtalks, I also served as the Blog Manager and Editor for The Women’s Network and have been a part of several organizations on campus, including Delta Gamma Fraternity, where I acted as Vice President of Communications.With each leadership experience during my undergraduate education, I have developed the ability to think creatively, read critically, and communicate effectively. I am now attending Loyola Marymount University to pursue my Master’s in English while working as a Graduate Teaching Fellow for the English department as well as a writing tutor.I am eager to continue my research on environmental literature and gain hands-on experience on my path toward teaching English at the university level.I’d like to think that perhaps one day I will teach on Prince Edward’s Island, just like Anne herself!
