About Ashan Anthonisz Chandrasena
I am a Sri Lankan researcher and community advocate driven by a commitment to amplify underrepresented voices through scholarship and service. As a double major in Political Science and Writing at Ithaca College with minors in Education, and Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies, my work explores how colonial histories continue to shape gender, identity, and governance in South Asia.Guided by my grandfather’s belief in education as a tool for community empowerment, I have dedicated my time to connecting research with real-world impact—whether through mentoring students, re-establishing the South Asian Student Alliance, or producing inclusive media and policy-focused projects. My academic and leadership experiences reflect a consistent goal: bridging the gap between the academy and the community to ensure that marginalized stories are heard, respected, and celebrated.I hope to continue this work through graduate study and future research that examines how postcolonial societies can reclaim and redefine their narratives in global discourse.
