As Power Distribution Lead for Illini Electric Motorsports, I spearhead the design and development of the team’s Power Distribution Board (PDB), responsible for delivering a stable 24V supply with less than 400mV ripple. I implemented high-precision current and voltage monitoring systems (under 5mA and 1mV resolution, respectively) and integrated intelligent I²T e-fusing managed by an STM32H7 microcontroller.I also architected CAN-based communication circuits using an ARM Cortex-M MCU to transmit live data at 500 Hz, ensuring reliable data flow throughout the vehicle. Using ANSYS Icepak, I modeled thermal behavior under dynamic load conditions, directly informing our mechanical cooling design and enclosure layout.In addition, I designed and simulated a 700 W DC/DC buck converter in LTSpice for use on the PDB and developed a MATLAB-based Li-ion battery discharge model that enabled better cell configuration decisions and reduced total system weight by 1.5 lb.
