ABOUT ARY ALVAREZ-VALDEZ

I’m Ary Alvarez-Valdez, a junior at Howard University majoring in Legal Communications with a minor in Community Development, originally from Boston, MA. I’m passionate about creating equitable housing opportunities and advocating for communities that have historically been underserved and overlooked, especially within the housing sector.My academic and professional interests center on understanding how policy, communication, and community development intersect to shape access to affordable housing. I’m deeply committed to exploring innovative, resident-centered solutions that promote housing stability, economic mobility, and inclusive neighborhood growth.Alongside this work, I’m equally driven by my creative side, specifically my love for television, storytelling, and creative writing. Growing up, TV wasn’t just entertainment for me. It was a space where I learned about identity, community, and the power of narrative. That early connection has evolved into a passion for developing stories that reflect lived experiences, honor cultural nuance, and amplify voices that are often overlooked. Whether I’m analyzing a show, writing a story idea, or studying how media shapes public understanding, I’m inspired by the ways storytelling can shift perspectives and spark meaningful change.I aspire to merge these worlds, policy and creativity, to communicate complex issues in accessible, emotionally grounded ways.
