About Arvind Bind
Passionate Materials Engineer with 18+ years of experience specializing in advanced material characterization, fracture mechanics, and mechanical testing. As a Scientific Officer (E) at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), I have led critical R&D initiatives in nuclear structural materials, focusing on hydride embrittlement and delayed hydride cracking (DHC) of zirconium alloys. Driven by scientific curiosity, I’ve developed innovative methodologies using advanced testing protocols, including DCPD, load normalization, and unloading compliance techniques, contributing to breakthroughs in material performance predictions. My technical proficiency extends to mechanical testing across temperature ranges, hydrogen charging, and operating high-end equipment like Zwick-Roell, MTS, and Instron UTS machines. Collaborating with the IAEA and contributing to global nuclear materials research, I’ve authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and presented at international conferences. I’m committed to mentoring the next generation of materials scientists and fostering industry-academic partnerships. Let’s connect if you share a passion for advancing materials engineering and driving innovation in nuclear structural materials.

Derived the relations of pl and pl factor with separation parameter (S) which can be used to estimation of pl and pl factor using load separation method. Proposed the polynomial fits between S and b/W for more accurate estimation of pl and pl. Usefulness of the proposed method was explained using SENT and CCT specimens. The method is being extended to the other fracture geometries.Developing the heat-treated Zr-2.5Nb pressure tube (PT) material for Indian PHWRs.Evaluating the fracture toughness of NiTi shape memory alloys using DCPD methodEvaluating the fracture toughness of Ultra-fine grained SS304.Independently established the fracture testing of Zr-2.5Nb PT material using DCPD method.Studied the hydride embrittlement (HE) of Zr-2.5Nb PT material by carrying out large nos. of fracture tests.Took lead role in mechanical characterization of Zr-2.5Nb PT material fabricated from new forging route.Took lead role in IAEA coordinated research project on DHC behavior of different Zr-alloys clad tube materials which was very much appreciated by IAEA.Studied the effect of nature and concentration of hydrogen isotopes, test temperature approach and presence of radial hydrides on DHC behavior of Zr-2.5Nb PT material.Evaluated the fracture toughness of titanium tubes using non-standard PLT specimens.Evaluated the fracture toughness of Indian RPV steel and RAFM steel.
