Experience

  1. Protection Application Engineer

    Burns & McDonnell

Sep 2021 — Present · Atlanta, GA, US

Duke Energy Transmission Substation One-Line, Logic Diagrams and Relay Settings Project: Fault analysis & Protection Engineering of 100kV & 44kV Transmission Lines (Radial & Network), 100-44kV Transformers, Buses, and Capacitor Banks using Aspen Oneliner. Created the Logic Diagrams and One-Lines of various Transmission Line Relays, Capacitor Bank Relays, Bus Differential and Transformer Differential Relays (for both internal and through-faults) using AutoCAD Electrical and Duke Energy Protection Philosophy document. Relay Settings and Coordination Studies of various Lines, Transformers, Buses and Cap banks of a Transmission Substation using Quickset AcSELerator & Aspen Oneliner. Worked on DTT, POTT and DCB communication schemes for Transmission Line Relays like SEL 411L, SEL 311C. • Duke Energy & Georgia Power Distribution Circuit Review & Relay Settings Project: Circuit Reviews (Fault Analysis, Coordination Study and Relay Settings) of various Distribution Substation Feeders (12.5kV & 24kV), Buses, and Transformers using CymeDist and Cyme TCC softwares. Analyzed the sensitivity issues of feeder breaker relay due to increase in large DG interconnections at various locations. Analyzed and designed the protection of various substation configuration with Aux breaker, Bus Sectional Breaker, Main Bus, and Transfer Bus. • DER Interconnection Studies and Protection using Machine Learning Methods: Studied an intelligent overcurrent protection algorithm to learn and detect the short circuit current fed from IBDERs using Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN) method. Founded a method to solve the coordination issues in Machine Learning Programmed Relays using R-GOOSE messaging. Created an algorithm using RBFNN and R-GOOSE method to solve the sensitivity issues in Feeder breaker relays due to high penetration DERs (Synchronous Generators).
