About Arun Joseph
Arun is STSM of the Hardware Electronic Design Automation Group in IBM India Hardware Development Lab. Recognized for innovation and establishing new enterprise-scale products and worldwide teams from initial ideation. The IBM EDA R&D in the Hardware Development Lab is an accomplished team of ~100 cross-discipline engineers, working closely with diverse worldwide leadership teams.In this role, he is focused on building world-class hardware debug and verification EDA platforms and tools-suites, while being \"hands-on\" at the same time. The engineering involves an industry-first cross-discipline debug platform, and a AI driven platform for automated hardware verification. He engages to leverage his expertise in improving energy efficiency across the system stack. Arun loves to lead engineering transformation initiatives. He received IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards in 2015 and 2019. He received IBM Major Outstanding Technical Accomplishment Award in 2025. He has ~40 US patents granted (2025), and recognized as IBM Master Inventor in 2020 & 2023. He received his 8th IBM Invention Plateau in 2023. In 2018 Interesting Engineering (IE) featured one invention in “15 Of the Most Interesting Patents Acquired In the Past 5 Years” placing IBM at #10. 30+ publications across premier international conferences & and journals (including Design & Test). ISLPED\'15 Best Paper Nominee. DAC\'24 Best Presentation Honorary Mention.As time permits, Arun enjoys interacting with students and academia. He serves as a reviewer, TPC member, session chair and guest editor of reputed international conferences and journals, and on Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) initiatives. Awarded the SRC Industry Liaison Award (2022).In addition to his technical skills, Arun values interpersonal skills and strives to demonstrate and drive a “one team” teamwork mindset and communication, driving product development across diverse cross-geographical engineering and leadership teams.
