Patro “Pero” Ulmer is a contemporary artist from Orangeburg, South Carolina, whose creative journey began in childhood with a deep appreciation for visual expression. Over the years, he has cultivated a dynamic and multifaceted artistic practice that spans abstract expressionism, graffiti, and realism. Among these, expressionism remains his most personal and favored style, allowing him to explore emotion and color in powerful, evocative ways.Ulmer’s work is often rooted in social consciousness, reflecting his commitment to community and justice. One of his most recognized public pieces is the UNiTY mural in Clemson, South Carolina—a vibrant and symbolic artwork featuring the word “unity” in American Sign Language, with overlapping hands forming a cohesive, inclusive shape. This mural stands as a testament to his dedication to promoting togetherness and raising awareness around social justice issues.In addition to his public art, Ulmer has contributed to numerous community-based projects, including murals honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other themes centered on equality, hope, and resilience. A resident of Anderson, South Carolina for over 15 years, he remains actively engaged in the local art scene.Ulmer holds a Bachelor of Arts in Fine/Studio Arts from Claflin University and a Master’s degree in Art Education from Lander University. He is currently pursuing a terminal degree in Painting, further deepening his expertise and commitment to the field. His professional experience includes roles as a middle school art teacher, art education instructor, and museum curator.At the heart of Ulmer’s work is a mission to inspire change through love—a message he signs with his distinctive mark, Pero Love, on each of his creations.
