About Arthur Doler

I\'m a developer with over 20 years of experience in the business, capable of learning and mastering whatever happens to come up in the course of pursuing any given project. I describe myself as an \"aggressive generalist\". I\'ve been paid to code in Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, C#, and too many other languages to provide the full list. I\'ve built or worked on webapps, thick-client code, microservices, monoliths, ETL pipelines, and even some industrial automation, IoT, and robotics. I\'ve done a bit of devops and data science/machine learning, too. But it\'s not just code. I enjoy taking a problem and breaking it down, and truly understanding what the client\'s problem is, and what it\'ll take to solve it. I\'ve been an individual contributor and a tech lead, and I\'m ready to move up to something bigger.But wait, there\'s more! I\'m passionate about psychology (especially organizational and cognitive psychology) and neuroscience, and taking things I have learned from those fields and trying to apply them to my work and workplace. I\'m a prolific public speaker about these topics; I\'ve spoken at over 65 conferences over the course of 9 years, plenty of them international, and I\'ve even given some keynotes. My talk topics include mental health at work, team conflict, the psychology of regret, the benefits of ritual and routine, and various cognitive biases and how they affect our work and workplaces.I\'ve also done a lot of work around conferences: helping an employer sponsor them, revamp their booth design and layout, as well as managing and helping out with a team which built two physical IoT booth games for use as attractors at those booths. I\'ve been part of an internal coaching initiative, I\'ve started a pin-based program for recognition and for tracking your journey at the company, and I\'ve worked with marketing teams to help host community events, and to hone an employer\'s developer-focused messaging.If that seems like a lot to you, imagine how it feels on this side (I\'m kidding - mostly). What I really love is helping technology *help* people, instead of simply extracting data from them while making their lives worse, or instead of building environment-destroying lie engines that users unilaterally hate. Every technology is a tool, from the first piece of paper to the latest quantum processor, and we must choose to wield that tool well and for good purpose in the world.

   I\'m working to get Aviture back into a position where we\'re supporting and engaging in the local Omaha tech community, and eventually the broader tech community at large. I\'ve been working on cultivating internal speakers, figuring out why and how we sponsor local events, and trying to aggregate and streamline some of the already-existing community work that Aviture does, as well as to push us outward into other opportunities.At the same time, I\'m helping to shape some of the internal culture, both for development and in general, and making sure that we apply intentionality and creativity to the problem of what it means to be a human at work at this time in history.
