1. Building our own Homestead

   Contractor Self

   Jan 2010 — Present

   Site work - excavation, tree removal, road building, back fill and final grade• Rough Carpentry - Exterior and interior (custom stairs, hand railing, rafters and hatchways)• Plumbing - sweat jointed copper piping for domestic water, PVC for drain-waste-vent to building state approved septic and approved by engineer• Installation of all windows, doors and siding• AC and DC electrical including Heating, Fire Alarm system and WiFi• Insulation of drywall, taping, finish to level 5• Masonry work - double flue chimney, Quarry tile floor, 2\" hex tile floor in baths plus tile walls• Hardwood floor installation• Finish carpentry using mostly native hardwood, tile and stone • Thermal mass wood fired natural draft heating system• Custom black iron propane distribution system.Because of many questions, I must state we did actually build and are building our own house and homestead. The only parts of the project we hired contractors to work on is the concrete foundation, installing the standing seam roof, purchase and installation of the Amish made kitchen cabinets. The rest of the projects we completed with a bit of help from family and friends plus our labor nights, weekends, and vacations as my wife and I both work full time.
