Turning Insights Into Medicines\"- this motto is behind what we are doing at CrystalsFirst. The company started with a proprietary technology to gather insights quicker and more reliable, namely in crystallography. This is an area of drug discovery in which one wants to determine if and how a given molecule binds to a protein. That protein usually is either a cause of a disease or related to the same. After finding good binders and learning about the binding mode the molecule can be developed further and further until it becomes a drug.My main areas of work after joining CrystalsFirst were to digitize and automate, establish an IT infrastructure to move away from university IT and by doing all of that help the teams and the company go faster (e.g.~10x faster data processing) and grow. After doubling the company size we embarked on the journey of AI in Drug Discovery. Since we have the capabilities to gather insights from experiments in the lab (e.g. at the [DESY] synchrotron in Hamburg), the next area with a great potential of improvement is the question about which molecules to test. Experiments are expensive, and possible molecules virtually infinite. We developed FragAI and were able to show that we can increase the success rate of campaigns with it. Fast forward again, the company almost doubled in size again, and we are off for even more ambitious pursuits. With a great team and results to back our claims.

Walking much-travelled roads was never fitting for me. I\'d rather think about a creative solution (or steps towards one) instead of why a problem is not solvable given the status quo. Having gained a lot of experience in doing so I\'m able to create a life of my own which is quite complex due to it\'s custom-made nature, but which grants a lot of freedom and fulfilment to me. I\'m grateful for the people who travelled with me and I\'m curious about who will, even briefly, do so in the future.Having started with self-employment in my teens I\'ve experienced both being employee of small to large organizations as well as working projects with such organizations, I\'ve settled for startups. The dynamic nature and the fact of startups being a melting pot of people eager to solve hard problems and figure out a culture and a way of working together without an organization dictating those, I can not only use my hard skills to advance the company, but also my soft skills in how to work with people and how to lead.Great things happen when humans being humans come together to change the world. One step at a time. Let\'s go!
