ABOUT ABDUL R SHAIKH
Dr. Abdul Shaikh is Global Leader for Digital Health for Amazon Web Services (AWS) where he owns the global go-to-market strategy and ecosystem partnerships helping providers, payors, government, and life sciences harness data for precision medicine, clinical and population health. As a former NIH program officer, public health educator, and health services researcher, Abdul is committed to multi-disciplinary collaboratives such as NASEM, AcademyHealth, and RWJF.Abdul brings more than 20 years of experience helping healthcare and life sciences organizations harness data for more equitable, integrated, and personalized care. He has also served as an advisor for early stage startups, incubators, and accelerators. Prior to AWS, Abdul was the Population Health Leader for PwC and Guidehouse, leading strategy, design and organization transformation, and served as a Program Officer at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and ONC. In this latter role he worked on meaningful use of health IT and was recognized by the Whitehouse in 2010 for leading the first COMPETES Act innovation prize competitions. Abdul\'s work spans digital health and precision medicine, remote patient monitoring, machine learning (ML) prediction models, generative AI, quantification of social needs (i.e, SDOH), natural language processing (NLP), electronic health records (EHR), digital quality measurement, and interoperability of diverse/multi-modal data. He has been featured in national outlets such as Becker’s Hospital Review, Wired, and the Wall Street Journal, and he is a regular speaker at industry, government and scientific meetings on AI, cloud, and digital health innovation. Abdul\'s professional activities include serving on commercial and nonprofit boards, the HIMSS SDOH Committee, AWS Health Equity CoP, and the National Academy of Medicine’s Digital Health Action Collaborative. He trained at the University of Toronto and University of Michigan, completing his post-doc as a Cancer Prevention Fellowship at NCI.
