About Arnaz Bharucha
With a Master’s in Pharmacology from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor’s in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology from the Institute of Chemical Technology, I have developed a strong foundation in drug formulation and molecular pharmacology. My education has been complemented by hands-on research experience in both academic and industry settings. Currently, as a Research Assistant at Michigan Medicine, I focus on developing and applying mass spectrometry-based methods to detect and quantify steroids from human samples. Leveraging my expertise in liquid-liquid extraction, cell culture, and cell-based assays, I contribute to analytical workflows that integrate pharmacological insights with advanced analytical chemistry. My long-term goal is to advance research that bridges fundamental pharmacology and clinical applications.
Experience
Research Assistant
Nov 2025 — Present · Ann Arbor, MI, US
I perform Agilent LC-MS-based quantitation of steroid hormones in human plasma for the SWAN cohort, focusing on low-abundance estrogens in menopausal women. This work involved complex sample preparation (SLE, LLE) and dansyl chloride derivatization to enhance sensitivity for trace-level detection, along with calibration model development, QC assessment, and data integrity review using MassHunter. In parallel, I am currently leading method development for Δ5 steroid analysis in sheep samples, implementing picolinic acid derivatization and optimizing reaction conditions, extraction workflows, and instrument parameters to improve ionization efficiency and analytical robustness. I also support routine instrument performance checks, system suitability monitoring, and troubleshooting to maintain consistent assay performance and minimize downtime. Across both projects, I keep detailed records and follow SOPs to ensure reproducibility and high-quality analytical output.
