ABOUT ARMANDO MONARREZ
Hello! My name is Armando Monarrez, and I am currently a sophomore at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln on a pre-medicine track. During my time at Nebraska, I have been actively involved in the Honors Program, the WHT Scholars Program, the Association of Students at the University of Nebraska (ASUN), and Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, where I continue to develop leadership, service, and professional skills.I am pursuing majors in Biology and Spanish, with a minor in Biochemistry, driven by both scientific curiosity and a deep commitment to equitable healthcare. I have always been fascinated by how the human body works—from complex cellular processes to system-wide physiology. Pairing this passion with Spanish reflects my belief that effective healthcare begins with understanding patients beyond their symptoms. As the child of immigrants, I have witnessed firsthand how language barriers can prevent families from accessing proper medical care. No one should struggle to receive treatment simply because they cannot communicate with their provider, and I am committed to helping bridge that gap.Looking ahead, I aspire to become a physician. Through my experiences over the past few years, I have gained clarity about my strengths and interests within medicine. A summer STEAM position showed me how rewarding it is to work with children, sparking a strong interest in pediatrics. Additionally, my coursework in MEDT101X (Fall 2024) introduced me to phlebotomy, which deepened my interest in anesthesiology and surgery and further reinforced my desire to work in hands-on, patient-centered medical settings.I look forward to connecting and learning from others as I continue this journey. Wishing everyone the best in their future aspirations!
