About Arjun Menon

I am currently a rising senior working towards my bachelor\'s in finance at the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University. I\'ve been lucky enough to experience roles that exposed me to different parts of business. I have cooked pizzas and cleaned kitchens and counted inventory and stacked boxes. Basically, I\'ve completed the run-of-the-mill high school job checklist. It was sophomore year when I broke out of the traditional career path for a high schooler. I learned how to cut hair and grew a small business out of it with around 30 steady clients. After doing that, college came around and I moved my business into the college dorms. After the first year of cutting hair, I began focusing on finance and what I wanted to do with it. My role as a bank teller gave me the skills I needed when it came to human contact and how to talk to someone. I dealt with happy, sad, angry, frustrated, and plain people for 8 hours a day five days a week. A combination of using quick math and learning how to deal with people in a comfortable way are skills I used to excel in my corporate internship at The Bank of New York Mellon Pershing. At Pershing, I was able to learn about how the financial industry works from within. My Excel skills improved dramatically as it is something I was using extensively every day. I learned the role of clearing/custody services associated with introducing broker-dealers (IBDs) and the flow of trade settlement. I worked on outside projects such as a mock portfolio management assignment, a write-off limit raise proposal, and multiple presentations based on research I conducted within the company. I was able to assist in daily work within my team, abiding by regulations governing trade reconciliation per Regulation-T and SEC Rule 15c3-3. My Excel skills improved dramatically during this internship and I was able to become familiar with NetEx360, I widely used program within the financial industry. All the skills I have obtained at each of these jobs are ones that I hope to bring into whatever role comes my way in the future. There is a lot left to learn and I am excited to grow my skills as well as garner new ones.
