About Arif Mamun
Dr. Mamun is currently the Deputy Vice President for Evaluation and Acting Chief Economist at the Millennium Challenge Corporation, a U.S. foreign assistance agency. He is a development and labor economist with more than 20 years of experience in economic analysis and research on public investments that informed strategic policy decisions, project design, and program implementation in Africa, Asia, Central America, and the U.S. As a member of MCC’s Investment Management Committee, he advises on the agency’s investment portfolio, results framework, and strategic agenda to ensure that financing results in strong development impact. In his current role, he provides strategic direction and technical oversight of MCC’s economic analysis and monitoring & evaluation divisions that advance analytic work underpinning the agency’s investments and track results. Prior to MCC, he was an Associate Director at Mathematica, a policy research organization, where he led multi-disciplinary teams, applying comprehensive and rigorous approaches to evaluation design, measurement, analysis, evidence reporting, and learning. He served as principal investigator on multiple large-scale randomized trials in the U.S. and developing countries and conducted evaluations using non-experimental impact analysis methods as well as qualitative performance evaluation approaches. In his research and international development work, he served in leadership roles for work across a diverse set of sectors, including energy, transport, blended finance, financial inclusion, agriculture, food security and nutrition, health, education, and workforce development. He has numerous research publications, and has experience teaching economics and presenting to diverse audiences in the U.S. and abroad.
