About Arianne P.

One of my favorite memories from school, is hearing from my parents after my elementary school parent-teacher conference that \"Arianne is a problem solver and will not give up until she finds an answer.\" My passion for problems solving from elementary school transformed into the desire to pursue biomedical engineering on a pre-medical track.I am currently a sophomore biomedical engineering on the pre-med track at the University of Rhode Island and am involved both in the clinical field as a volunteer and in the engineering research field as an undergraduate researcher. My passion for problem solving and my desire to understand the complexity of human body through patient interaction have led to experiences in the healthcare field, pharmaceutical engineering field, and medical device field.I have experience as a student researcher in the lab of Dr. Samantha Meenach at the University of Rhode Island and have been conducting research on finding the most optimal particle delivery methods for the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis. My current project is focused on synthesizing and characterizing platelet coated nanoparticles and performing in vitro studies to determine the bonding abilities of platelet coating with collagen and mucosa barriers. My volunteering experience has been at Rhode Island Hospital (RIH) Geriatrics Department where I support geriatrics patients both by accompanying them and assisting them with physical tasks such as food intake. I also served as General Support at the RIH Emergency Department where I worked closely with patients during COVID to track significant changes in their physical and mental state. My non-traditional path of approaching the pre-medical journey with a concentration has allowed me to look at the medical world through a technological lens. I enjoy discovering new science while working with patients to enhance patient care and patient life. I aspire to attend medical school upon the completion of my degree at URI and become a future physician scientist.
