ABOUT AREND HOEKSTRA

I am a partner at the Canadian law firm Cassels and also a Chartered Professional Accountant (Chartered Accountant). My practice is focused on project development and related economic opportunities for corporate, Indigenous, and government clients. I have been cited in the debates of the Canadian Senate and Canadian Lawyer Magazine, and my writings have been considered by the House of Commons Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern Affairs. I provides advice on:• Project development• Economic development and procurement• Commercial negotiations and agreements• The duty to consult• Treaty negotiations• Project-related environmental and regulatory matters• Negotiation of Impact Benefit Agreements and Capacity Funding Agreements• Legislative drafting• Litigation matters, including judicial review proceedings• Use of Reserve lands• Financing and acquisition of mineral resource propertiesMy previous experience includes acting as Senior Advisor for one of Canada\'s largest mines and acting as a controller for a large helicopter services company serving the mineral exploration and mining industry in the NWT.
