ABOUT AREEBA FATIMA
I am a researcher, fact-checker, and investigative journalist in New York City, pursuing Data Journalism at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.When I was a senior fact checker and investigative journalist at Soch Media, my story on Pakistani Arms in Ukraine made it to the Global Investigative Journalism Network\'s list in 2023. I also co-hosted Pakistan\'s first Urdu-language international news show,\"Front Page\", where I covered global economy, international politics, and emerging technologies. My 2024 investigative fact-checking project, covering Pakistan’s general elections, was awarded Best Fact-Checking Project by the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA).I enjoy dispelling political myths, and I dislike individuals who attempt to conceal actionable information from the public. I am also interested in deconstructing imperial supply chains, information governance in authoritarian regimes, and following the money. I cover AI, geopolitics, internet governance, press freedom, elections, politics, and financial crimes.I write fiction for leisure. I am both enamored and horrified by how quickly AI is changing the world, politics, and the economy, and in awe of how fundamentally incapable we are at dealing with this node in our story of progress as a species.
