In Dr. Mangalam’s lab, I am investigating the complex interactions between hormones, particularly progesterone, immune responses, and gut microbiota. My research focuses on understanding how natural progesterone exerts anti-inflammatory effects, while synthetic progestins promote pro-inflammatory responses, and how these hormonal influences interact with gut microbes. I study the role of gut microbiota in modulating immune responses and their contribution to the development of neurological diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, as well as their impact on colorectal cancer progression
