About April M. Steele
I am a team-oriented licensed psychotherapist with experience providing behavioral health services to individuals, families, and groups. I possess in-depth knowledge of treatment models, intervention methods and procedures including assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning. My keen awareness of cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of diverse populations makes me a valuable asset to any team. I have cooperatively engaged with other professionals, team members, related community resources, and local agencies to provide the best outcomes for clients. I have provided therapeutic services in an outpatient setting and in Evidenced-Based In-Home Therapeutic Models including: Urban Trauma/Racial Trauma Therapy models, Family Based Recovery (FBR), Multi-Dimensional Family Therapy (MDFT), and Adolescent Sexual Behavior Treatment and Education Program (ASBTEP). As part of my duties I have had experience in administering racial trauma assessments, sex offender risk assessments, suicide risk assessments, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, sexuality education, parenting education, and individual and family therapy sessions. I have experience working with youth, adolescents, and adults with various diagnoses including but not limited to racial trauma, adjustment disorder, PTSD, depression, anxiety, anger management, substance use disorder, ADHD, and autism. I am also a clinical supervisor trainee, and adjunct instructor in the MFT program at SCSU. I have experience teaching courses and providing individual and group clinical supervision with students. I am a Certified Hypnotherapist, am certified in Multi-Dimensional Family Therapy (MDFT), completed an Externship in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, completed 2-year Intensive Gestalt Therapy Training, and have performed various case management services as needed.
