About April Oh

I am a 3rd-year undergraduate student at the University of California, Santa Cruz pursuing a B.A. in Global & Community Health with a concentration in Environmental Science and a minor in Latin American and Latino Studies. My academic interests focus on environmental planning, environmental health, sustainability policy, and urban planning. I am especially interested in how data, policy, and community involvement can work together to solve real-world environmental and public health problems.Through my coursework and projects, I have gained experience in environmental data collection, statistical analysis, and research methods across population health, ecology, environmental justice, and climate science. In a spatial ecology field research project in which I worked with a group, studying the relationship between ant hill locations and nearby bushes. We collected field measurements, created scatter plots, and analyzed the data to understand patterns in habitat use. I have also worked with both quantitative and qualitative data from different field sites and case study areas, using research findings to think about solutions for sustainable urban and coastal development. A recent ecotourism research project further strengthened my interest in balancing policy, community needs, and environmental protection.In addition to academics, I currently serve as the Senior Vice President of Delta Sigma Pi (Professional Business Fraternity) at UC Santa Cruz. In this role, I support the Chapter President, help with executive decisions, oversee all recruiting activities, and act as a main point of communication between officers, members, and new candidates. Previously, as Vice President of Community Service, I led sustainability-focused projects such as beach cleanups and food donation drives, worked with university organizations to increase environmental awareness, and coordinated outreach, logistics, and volunteers to encourage student involvement in service and sustainability.I have been recognized on the Dean’s GPA Honors List and the Cum Laude GPA Honors List, reflecting my commitment to academic growth and excellence. Overall, I bring a strong work ethic, hands-on field research experience, leadership skills, and a passion for sustainability, environmental health, and community-focused solutions. I am excited to continue building these skills through research, internships, and collaborative opportunities that create meaningful impact.

   Assists the Chapter President with strategic planning, executive decision-making, and coordination of chapter operations- Oversees all recruiting activities, including outreach strategy, candidate screening, scheduling, and coordination across executive committees- Plans and executes the formal pledging ceremony, managing logistics, sequencing, and participant coordination- Acts as a central communication link between executive officers, general members, and potential new members to ensure clarity and consistency- Supports continuity of leadership by assuming presidential responsibilities when necessary and maintaining operational stability.
