About Apoorva Dharmendra
After my primary medical education, I pursued a Ph.D. in Clinical Neurosciences, an Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) fellowship. My Ph.D. program offered me the unique opportunity to combine clinical training with clinical research. This exposure has given me a greater interest in translational research taking place in the medical field. For my doctoral work, being interested in the neurobiological underpinnings of psychiatric disorders, I opted to work in the department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the National Institute for Mental Health and Neurosciences. I studied neurodevelopmental disorders using a novel neuroimaging technique called ‘functional near-infrared spectroscopy’(fNIRS). I look forward to continuing my association with medical research and being an advocate for child and adolescent mental health.
