ABOUT AURELIEN PIERRE

I am currently the Libya exploration manager at Suncor, leading negotiations with the Libya National Oil Corporation with the support from a mixed technical/commercial team. I previously worked with Chevron in the Middle East and in West Africa. I joined Talisman-Energy in 2012 to lead the Algeria Berkine Basin Shale Evaluation Project. As a leader, I do not hesitate to give some initial thoughts and ideas myself, as I believe that it is easier to modify an existing idea than to start from scratch, and that by doing so, we can create better solutions. I understand that people may be hesitant to share their ideas at first, but I believe that by creating a safe and supportive environment, we can foster creativity and innovation. I therefore also encourage my team to share their ideas and then work collaboratively to refine them. I come from a highly technical and research background with about 20 years of exploration, reservoir characterization and modeling experience with project leader or specialist roles, spanning New Ventures to mature field development projects (Canada/Algeria/Angola/Kuwait/Libya). I have developed exploration plays that have been drilled resulting in oil discoveries e.g. a reflux dolomitization fairway in the Jurassic of Kuwait. In addition I have significant review experience which I continue to develop through acting as the Delegate for the E&P Chief Geologist for Peer Reviews. In addition I have excellent communication skills which I have developed through giving numerous presentations to senior management as well as technical talks at international conferences. I graduated from University of Burgundy with PhD in Carbonate Sedimentology (2006) and from the IFP/ENSPM Paris 6 University with a master’s degree in Earth Sciences (2002). During my master’s degree and my PhD, I specialized in Carbonate Sedimentology in North Africa and in the Middle East, and Basin Analysis.
