As responsible for the Data team, encompassing Data Architecture & Engineering, Business Intelligence and Data Science practices; I’ve been delivering analytics, reporting, dashboards, insights and studies for the whole company.I led a data transformation project bulding a brand new data platform in a greenfield project, from architecture design to implementation, migrating from a legacy structure to Google Cloud Platform. We put in place concepts of data mesh and data contracts, using modern data stack as analytics paradigm; including practices of data ingestion, transformation, cataloguing and reporting over a semantic layer to enable self-service BI capabilities. I designed and implemented a new data architecture for Watchfinder, 100% based on open-source solutions (zero licensing no costs) with tools such as Airbyte, dbt, Airflow, DataHub and Metabase, hosted in AWS and GCP environments, connecting several sources to the Data Warehouse in Google BigQuery. I also manage this infrastructure by good practices as well as infrastructure as a code, using Terraform and repos in Git as sources of truth.Acting as a tech lead, I’ve been developing the team to upskill in analytics engineering practice, mentorship and leading by example, implementing and managing the team workload through Agile methodologies.As part of the company’s Governance structure, I do monthly reports to the ExCo (Executive Committee/board) on the Data team execution, planning and backlog to keep consistency with the wider company strategy and goals, alignment of expectations, managing stakeholders from business areas and prioritising the next initiatives.Using the new architecture, the Data team could work with more flexibility, delivering assured quality data to the business, reducing the lead time to insights and enabling self-service BI capabilities.
