As a Protection and Control Engineer at Morson Projects, I’m proud to be part of the Great Grid Upgrade – one of the UK’s largest energy infrastructure programmes – in collaboration with National Grid UK. I work within the Power team, supporting vital Transmission and Distribution (T&D) projects that are modernising and strengthening the UK electricity network. My Role Includes:Supporting the design and delivery of Protection & Control (P&C) systems for high-voltage substations across the UK grid.Assisting in the development of Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), wiring diagrams, schematics, and other essential electrical drawings.Contributing to calculations such as cable sizing, voltage drop analysis, and LVAC/LVDC load evaluations.Gaining hands-on experience with technical specifications, equipment selection, and understanding of batteries, UPS systems, and other key substation components.Participating in design review and HAZOP meetings, learning from experienced engineers and supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality solutions.Working with teams to ensure designs meet IEC 61850 standards. Skills & Knowledge Gained:Understanding the full engineering lifecycle and project delivery frameworks in the energy sector.Exposure to National Grid standards and UK DNO requirements.Developing technical knowledge in protection relays, fault analysis, and substation automation systems.Strengthening my skills in collaboration, technical communication, and engineering documentation.
