ABOUT ANUSHKA THAKKAR
A transportation planner and public health professional who strongly believes in the interaction of these two professions for building sustainable and healthier communities. I hope to combine my lived experiences in three countries as a car-free resident, a transit lover, a pedestrian and a commuter cyclist with my technical assistance, community engagement and spatial analytics skills to make places safer, fun and easier for non-auto users. As someone who grew up with the option to walk over to my friend\'s house as a 7 year old, take my bike to my music lessons while my grandfather walked alongside and use the streets outside my house as a recreational space, I want to contribute to the work we need to do to allow kids, parents and grandparents today to have the same experience and autonomy. I have experience managing projects and community engagement workshops related to complete streets including organizing walk-audits, reviewing draft policy documents, working with communities to implement quick-build demonstration projects and more. On the research communication and resource-development side, I have developed GIS storymaps as well managed production of field scans/reports and written various blogs/memos. I am a GIS nerd and love working with data and maps.
