The Sensors Council was formally constituted in June 1998 with presidents of 14 Societies signing the petition for its formation. The fields of interest of the Council and its activities shall be the theory, design, fabrication, manufacturing and application of devices for sensing and transducing physical, chemical, and biological phenomena, with emphasis on the electronics, physics and reliability aspects of sensors and integrated sensor-actuators. Following are the 14 founding societies: Broadcast Technology Circuits and Systems Components, Packaging & Manufacturing Tech Control Systems Dielectrics & Electrical Insulation Engineering in Medicine & Biology Industrial Electronics Lasers & Electro-Optics Microwave Theory & Techniques Nuclear & Plasma Sciences Reliability Robotics & Automation Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics & Frequency Control Vehicular Technology. Currently, there are 26 member societies of this council. Each society is represented in the Administrative Committee (AdCom) of the council through its appointed representative.
