ABOUT ANUJ DESAI
I\'m an experienced commercial lawyer, having worked in a variety of senior in-house roles in the UK media/telecoms industry over 20 years, at companies such as the BBC, Freesat, Tesco/Blinkbox, BT and HMV. I now act as a commercial lawyer and board advisor to startups and SMEs in the UK.I trained at top London media firm, Olswang (now CMS), and deliberately moved in-house early in my career, as I am fascinated by how companies work. I developed my legal skills alongside my commercial skills, as well as gaining a deeper understanding of business operations. This holistic approach gives me a greater appreciation of the challenges businesses face, and I take this context into the legal advice I provide.I also established and hosted Europe’s leading cannabis industry podcast,\'The Cannabis Conversation,\' which has been a reliable source of education for the industry, as well as a valued platform for its participants. Over the years I developed considerable experience in public speaking at industry conferences as host, panel moderator and speaker. It was my entrepreneurial interests that first led me to dive into the cannabis space in 2017, and my foray into that space has been likened to an alternative MBA! Through exploring this emerging industry I learned about farming/agriculture, drug policy, international supply chains and regulation, private and public investment and capital raising, clinical research and drug development, to name but a few areas.I\'m interested in connecting with entrepreneurs, small businesses and like-minded lawyers.
