ABOUT ANTONIO METASTASIO

Specialties: Geriatric MedicinePsychiatryDr Metastasio qualified from the University of Perugia (Italy) in His MD Thesis was on the “Cognitive decline in the elderly between normality and dementia: the role of functional neuroimaging”. He than trained as Geriatrician in Italy. Subsequently he moved to the UK and completed his postgraduate training in Adult Psychiatry (with endorsement in Addiction and in Rehabilitation Psychiatry) in Cambridge in 2012. Dr Metastasio also completed his MSc in Addiction Biology at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London in 2012. He was appointed Consultant Psychiatrist the same year. He is currently Consultant Psychiatrist in the Suffolk Access and Assessment Team. Dr Metastasio has publised numerous scientific articles in international peer reviewed journals on different topics, spanning from Cognitive impairment and Dementia, Biomarkers, Depression and Schizophrenia and History of Psychiatry. His special interests are Dual Diagnosis (Psychiatric ilness + Substance misuse), Addictions, Neuropsychiatry and brain ageing (and its prevention). His CLAHRC project will address the prevalence of modifiable factors in dementia. He is planning a survey of the prevalence of polypharmacy, inappropriate prescribing and substance misuse in individuals with cognitive impairment and dementia in Suffolk.
