ABOUT ANTONIO ELIA FORTE

My research explores how soft materials, mechanical metamaterials, and robotic matter can be engineered to create adaptive, shape-changing, and intelligent systems. I am particularly interested in how geometry, material nonlinearity, and embodied intelligence can be combined to achieve robust, multifunctional behaviour across scales.I am currently an Associate Professor of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford and a Tutorial Fellow at Pembroke College. I lead the Reconfigurable and Adaptive Designs Lab (RADlab).Prior to joining Oxford, I was an Associate Professor at King’s College London. Before that, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard University and in Bioengineering at Imperial College London, following my PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Imperial, where I studied computational soft mechanics and soft matter physics.I am recipient of the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship, the Global Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship, the EPSRC Impact Accelerator Award, among other prizes and recognitions.Outside of research, daily interests include skateboarding, working on old motorcycles, playing electric guitars, and experimenting with weird analogue music devices.
