ABOUT ANTONIO BOLEA
I am a second-year student studying Cognitive Science as a pre-medical student at Yale.During my first year, I participated in Directed Studies, an intensive humanities program covering Western literature from antiquity to the present. It shaped my perspective on society and revealed the interconnectedness of ideas throughout history. Above all, it taught me the importance of individual expression and societal critique for the sake of progress. The authors we read came from many backgrounds and fields. I am an aspiring physician. However, as I shadowed and interacted with the healthcare system, I realized how little agency physicians have over a patient\'s care. It troubled me. My education so far has inspired me to stand at the intersection of policy, economics, and healthcare. Therefore, I hope that my studies going forward will prepare me to make informed, nuanced decisions in a field facing increasing change and scarcity. As a Cognitive Science major, I will take classes in economics, computer science, philosophy, and management. I hope to gain extracurricular opportunities in these fields as well.I don’t aspire to change the healthcare system—this is a societal responsibility. Instead, I want to set a precedent, one that calls physicians with similar aspirations to become leaders, activists, writers, and innovators, not just in healthcare, but in all fields, as health is the interconnected product of a multifaceted world.
