About Anton Yuryev

A results-oriented leader in bioinformatics and data science, I bring over three decades of experience driving innovation in life sciences and drug discovery. My career began with fundamental discoveries during my Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins University, where I uncovered the physical connections between RNA polymerase II transcription and RNA processing in eukaryotic cells. This was followed by postdoctoral research at Novartis Pharmaceuticals, where I demonstrated the import of a mammalian protein kinase into mitochondria. As the field of bioinformatics emerged, I played a key role in its development, contributing as a Senior Scientist at InforMax (developing sequence and genotyping analysis software), a Senior Bioinformatics Analyst at Orchid Bioscience (optimizing primer design), and at Ariadne Genomics (pioneering new approaches for pathway and network analysis). My scientific contributions include over 50 publications, the editorship of four scientific books, and the creation of several algorithms for primer design, pathway and network analysis of OMICs data.Currently, as Consulting Director at Elsevier Professional Services, I lead the development of bioinformatics solutions through consulting, custom software, and advanced analytics, directly addressing customer needs. My ongoing research leverages network science and AI to tackle challenges in drug discovery, disease modeling, and personalized medicine, with a focus on pathway reconstruction and the analysis of multi-OMICs molecular profiling data.    Responsible for client communication and execution of professional services projects in bioinformatics, bio-medical text-mining and knowledge management using Elsevier proprietary software and knowledgebases. Develop Elsevier deep-reading NLP technology and apply it for customer needs. Develop Python SDK for Elsevier API. Developed analytical approach to reduce dimensionality of transcriptomics data by its convolution into regulator activity space using Elsevier biology knowledge graph. The method is applied to find most active cancer hallmark pathways in a tumour and select personalised treatment options for cancer patients. Calculated pathway activity can be used further to develop AI classifiers trained on patient cohorts to predict drug response.
