About Anthony Turo
Anthony J. Turo became the executive director of Ursuline Support Services in April 2004, where he oversees an agency that specializes in social and financial support services, including guardianship, protective services, representative payee, along with independent housing service coordination and eviction prevention support for senior and special needs individuals. Under his guidance, Ursuline achieved and has maintained accreditation under the Standards for Excellence voluntary national non-profit review system. Turo has over 40 years of experience with various human services in the Pittsburgh area, including the Northern Area Multi-Service Center, and the American Red Cross as the project director for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Turo joined Ursuline after 10 successful years with Catholic Charities of Pittsburgh. For more than eight of those years, he served as a division administrator with Catholic Charities overseeing diverse human services including employment and clinical therapeutic services, along with refugee resettlement, social ministry and programs for the aging. Leadership positions held with state, regional and national associations and advisory boards are among his proudest professional accomplishments, including appointment to the Board of Southwestern Pennsylvania Partnership for Aging (SWPPA) serving as both Secretary and Vice-Chair during his tenure. As a long-standing member of the Southwest Regional Council of the Pennsylvania Council on Aging (PCOA), he served in every officer position, including Chair for a three-year term, when he represented the region on the state PCOA as well. After that, Turo was appointed to a statewide seat on PCOA. Turo also served on the Board of Vincentian Collaborative System, and is an active member of the Greater Pittsburgh Nonprofit Partnership (GPNP). Turo also serves on the Chapter Board of the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral of Pittsburgh. Turo holds a Master of Public Administration from The University of Pittsburgh. He earned a Bachelor’s in Individual & Family Studies, emphasis in Adult Development & Aging from The Pennsylvania State University. Resident of the Pittsburgh area since graduation from Penn State; father of three with five grandchildren, Turo resides in the Ben Avon neighborhood with his spouse, two cats and one canine companion so far!
