ABOUT ANTHONY VETRO

Anthony Vetro is the President & CEO of Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs (MERL), in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and also serves a dual role as Deputy Head of Corporate R&D of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. He previously served as Vice President & Director of MERL, where he contributed to the strategic direction of the company and led teams in a variety of emerging technology areas. He began his career at MERL in 1996, where he conducted research in the area of multimedia signal processing, with a focus on video compression. His research contributed to the transfer and development of several technologies that were integrated into Mitsubishi Electric products, including digital television receivers and displays, surveillance and camera monitoring systems, automotive equipment, as well as satellite imaging systems.Anthony has published more than 200 papers and was an active member of the MPEG and ITU-T video coding standardization committees for a number of years. From 20••••14, he served as Head of the US Delegation to MPEG, and from 20••••18, he served as the Chair of the US Technical Advisory Group to ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 29.He has also been active in various conferences, technical committees and editorial boards. He currently serves as Chair of the Industry Board and as a member of the Board of Governors of the Signal Processing Society. Past roles include Conferences Board and Nominations & Appointments Committee of the Signal Processing Society, Senior Editorial Board of Journal on Selected Topics in Signal Processing and Journal on Emerging and Selected Topics in Circuits and Systems, Editorial Board of Signal Processing Magazine and Multimedia, Associate Editor of Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology and Transactions on Image Processing, Chair of TC on Multimedia Signal Processing of the Signal Processing Society, and Steering Committee of Transactions on Multimedia. He was a General Co-Chair of ICIP 2017 and ICME 2015, and also served as a Technical Program Co-Chair for ICME 2016.Anthony received the B.S, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic University, in Brooklyn, NY (now NYU Tandon School of Engineering).
