ABOUT ANTHONY S.
I am a PhD student in Social Welfare at the University of Pennsylvania, where my research sits at the intersection of social policy, technology, and race. My work explores how AI and social media shape the lived experiences of Black youth and communities impacted by gun violence—and how these digital spaces can serve as both catalysts for harm and opportunities for healing. As a first-generation college graduate from North Philadelphia, I carry with me the lessons of resilience, inequity, and community strength that shaped my trajectory. Those experiences drive my commitment to research that not only advances scholarship but also contributes to meaningful change in policy and practice.I specialize in community-engaged and participatory research, partnering with violence intervention organizations, credible messengers, and policy stakeholders to co-create strategies that address the root causes of violence. My goal is to produce work that bridges rigorous scholarship with real-world impact—informing how technology can be leveraged ethically and equitably in the service of prevention, healing, and liberation.I welcome opportunities to collaborate with scholars, practitioners, and organizations interested in advancing violence prevention, AI ethics, and community-based solutions.
