About Anthony Durkin
Anthony J. Durkin is an Associate Researcher at the Beckman Laser Institute at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Durkin’s research interests emphasize the development and application of technology for quantitative, in vivo optical spectroscopy and imaging of tissue function. The focus of this work is on developing new methods for understanding processes such as dysplasia, malignancy, and wound healing in epithelial tissues in addition to providing feedback for optimizing therapies, including applications of medical laser technology. Before joining BLI, Dr. Durkin was the Director of Bioscience at Candela Corporation where he worked on diagnostic and therapeutic applications of lasers to tissue. He has also worked as an NRC Post-doctoral fellow and Visiting Scientist at the Center for Devices and Radiological Health, Food and Drug Administration. Dr. Durkin holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin with an emphasis on biomedical optics and spectroscopy.Specialties: Quantitative near infrared spectroscopy and imaging, Chemometrics, quantitative fluorescence spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, Light - tissue interaction, Competitive Intelligence, Intellectual property
