   As the computer science teacher at The Webb School in Bell Buckle, TN, I’m responsible for organizing, developing, and teaching a dynamic 6–12 curriculum that prepares students with essential 21st-century skills. My goal is to build a robust program that emphasizes creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and technological fluency. I approach computer science through the lens of game development and game studies because at its core, the study of games is the study of systems. By using games as both a platform and a metaphor, I help students explore everything from logic and programming to user experience and systems thinking.I design coursework that is both exploratory and rigorous, introducing younger students to foundational concepts through puzzles, physical computing, and block-based coding, and guiding older students into deeper software engineering principles, including game design, systems architecture, and project-based development in environments like Unity.I also assist with the school’s robotics program, helping students engage with hands-on engineering and real-world problem-solving. Ultimately, I aim to create a program that empowers students to think like designers, problem-solvers, and creators which are skills that extend well beyond the classroom and into their futures.
