ABOUT ANTHONY BENEDICT
I have been a qualified teacher for 26 years. I started my career as an English teacher. I have worked in five different authorities and held senior roles, predominantly in secondary education, in six different schools. As Deputy Head Teacher, Standards and Effectiveness, I was a key player in moving my school from requires improvement to outstanding in just five years. As Executive Head Teacher of Tameside Pupil Referral Service, I have moved the service from Requires Improvement to good in eighteen months. In 2022 I completed a diploma in trauma and mental health and gained practitioner status. I completed the National Professional Qualification in Executive Leadership in May 2023. A quarter of my current role is to reduce permanent exclusion across Tameside. I chair and lead the headteacher\'s exclusion group and have created an innovative outreach programme which focuses on a proactive, relational approach. I am developing a ‘relational inclusion’ approach encompassing ACES, Trauma, Attachment and Emotion Coaching. I am a member of the Violence Reduction Unit steering group for Greater Manchester and the Greater Manchester Trauma and Attachment working party. Instead of responding to symptoms, I am passionate about gaining an understanding of the root cause of some of the issues young people and their communities face.
