About Anstonia

Ever since I was little, I was fascinated by language. The impact of being surrounded by different dialects or languages was noticeable even to my pre-adolescent ears and my interest in linguistics stemmed from that intrigue. And it was in high school when that intrigue mixed wonderfully with my developing interest in computer science. I was fortunate enough to be involved with a summer coding immersion program called Girls Who Code before my senior year of high school and not only did they teach me valuable skills to succeed in the computer science field, but also opened up my path to Natural Language Processing. Since then, I have immersed myself in computer science, cognitive science, and linguistics courses during my time in UC Berkeley to dive deeper into the intricacies of speech perception and recognition. Currently, I am a part of linguistics research studying the tonogenesis happening in Korean. The thought that a language that is not formally tonal can see trends that can lead to becoming a tonal language in the future astounds me and only further cements my fascination with language and perception.I am pursuing double Bachelor of Arts degrees in Cognitive Science with an emphasis in Computational Modeling and Linguistics with a possible emphasis in sociophonetics. While I am still fairly new to both fields, I am constantly absorbing new knowledge and applying that to my studies, research, and analysis of my daily interactions with friends (ex: vowel raising before nasals seen in the Californian accent). I am currently looking for an internship for Summer 2017 and I also enjoy learning about new and interesting topics, whether they be related to my interests (Natural Language Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Linguistics, etc.) or not, so feel free to contact me if you\'d like to connect.
