   In her role as head of communications for the Public Health Institute, Ann Whidden oversees a team responsible for communications strategy, internal communications, public relations and brand management for PHI’s diverse portfolio of over 150 programs and projects. To advance PHI’s overarching goals and priorities at the national and state levels, she works in coordination with PHI’s policy team to: develop strategies that increase advocacy and engagement amongst public health and health professionals; identify the strategic messages and messengers that influence particular policy outcomes; and, leverage new and traditional media opportunities to amplify public health policy messages. She has provided communications leadership and consultation to progressive corporate, governmental and non-profit organizations, including federal legislative staff, the American Public Health Association, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She holds a master’s degree in public health from San Francisco State University.
