About Annelies Goger
I am passionate about addressing rising inequality, building vibrant and resilient regions, and increasing economic opportunity. Trained as an economic geographer, I have expertise in workforce policy, apprenticeship, economic development, labor and education data systems, and global supply chains. I am honored to join the Aspen Institute as Director of Research at Upskill America! My research at Upskill America focuses on the future of work, apprenticeship and work-based learning, skills-based practices, and aligning US workforce, education, and economic development policy.Prior to joining Upskill America at the Aspen Institute, I was a Rubenstein Fellow at the Brookings Institution in the Brookings Metro program. Before that, I conducted policy evaluations and provided technical assistance at Social Policy Research Associates and IMPAQ International. My doctoral research examined ethical manufacturing practices in Sri Lankan clothing supply chains, where I was a Fulbright Scholar in Sri Lanka and a Social Science Research Council International Dissertation Research Fellow. My edited volume (co-edited with Sapna E. Thottathil)\"Institutions as Conscious Food Consumers\" was released in September 2018. It examined how institutions such as schools and hospitals are changing their procurement practices to improve the food system.
