ABOUT ANNAY DE

I am a doctoral researcher in Economics at Ashoka University and UGC-NET qualified (Assistant Professorship), with research interests spanning social and labour economics, development, and applied econometrics. My work explores how data, policy, and inclusive research practices can come together to address questions of inequality, participation, and growth. I bring experience across think tanks, chambers of commerce, NGOs, and academic institutions, having worked on projects with the Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Asia in Global Affairs, ADM Education & Welfare Society, Sabar Institute, where I continue to design and lead impactful research initiatives collaborating with organizations like Pratichi Institute, Calcutta Research Group, and Know Your Neighbour. Beyond research, I have managed and trained large cohorts of students and interns, mentored young professionals in tools such as survey design and econometrics, and led workshops that bridge academic knowledge with practical skills. With Keynes\' vision of a \"master economist\" in mind, other academic pursuits like quizzing, debating, MUNs, Case study competitions have been a parallel journey all along, with awards at several levels, served as a quizmaster with Akashvani, and founded multiple quizzing societies that continue to thrive as collaborative communities. My current focus lies at the intersection of economics, policy, and accessible research, with the aim of contributing to knowledge that not only explains but also enables change.
