Director of Primary Music @The Grammar School At Leeds

Responsible for music provision at GSAL Primary School. Work alongside the Assistant Director of Primary Music, theatre technician, sound technician, the Senior School music department, a team of 29 peripatetic music teachers, and the estates team. All pupils, from Nursery to Year 6, receive two curriculum music lessons per week, including whole class instrumental tuition - Y1 ocarina, Y2 violin, Y3 recorder, Y4 ukulele, Y5-6 ensembles. Ensembles: Primary School orchestra, chamber orchestra, lower, middle and upper school choirs, beginner wind, advanced wind, beginner strings, classical guitar group, and jam band (for electric guitarists, drummers and keyboardists).Performances: Regular formal and informal concerts, music assemblies, harvest celebration, Festival of Light (Diwali), nativities, Iftar (Ramadan), graduation events and productions. The upper school choir (The Minims) perform at the annual Yorkshire Business Awards at the Queens Hotel, Leeds (2022, 2023, 2024). The Summer Showcase features our three choral groups and all instrumental ensembles.Christmas performances: Year 5 and 6 concerts (242 children and upper school ensembles); Year 3 and 4 concert (176 children and middle school ensembles); Year 1 and 2 concert (176 children); Reception nativity performances; Nursery - Songs around the Christmas tree. Performance venues in school: Performing Arts Centre (350), Senior School Assembly Hall (420), Theatre Foyer, Dance and Drama Studio, Sports Hall, Dining Hall. The Grammar School at Leeds hosts termly ABRSM and LAMDA examinations. I am a member of the staff team for the biennial international Senior School music tour, involving school members of Chamber Choir, GSAL Singers, Cambiata Choir, Wind Band and Jazz Band. The Netherlands (2023), Belgium (2025).I perform in the school staff pantomime, which raises funds for local charities. This year we raised £8,630 for Leeds Community Foundation.
