About Anna Tompkins

I have spent the last 21 years in various roles of the theatrical realm, my most recent ventures focusing on rigging and automation. As an Acrobatic Rigger I have helped lead teams all across the globe in creating new and innovative aerial acts and shows with the utmost focus on safety whilst enabling artistic creativity. As an Automation Technician I have operated complex acrobatic and scenic shows flying up to a dozen performers at one time. I have worked with various leading companies to install new systems into state of the art theaters and worked closely with integrators to troubleshoot and finesse the safe capable range of motion for a variety of feedback systems for scenic and aerial winches. As a Rope Access Technician I am able to safely and efficiently locate, install and repair equipment in hard to reach areas which are rife in the theatrical world. This skill has also proven crucial in being able to execute effective rescue techniques for technicians and performers alike in both operations and show conditions. I enjoy being as hands-on as possible, whether through normal inspections, show operations and/or emergency repairs. I believe in clear and thorough communication between technicians and creatives to build fantastical, yet realistic goals. I love learning from others and teaching to all aspects of the industry in it’s new blossoming varieties. Whether industrial or artistic, there are new and old techniques that can be polished and adapted to suit the needs of any director or designer. Technicians can be artists too!
