Dr. Annie Steelman is an accomplished health system executive with over 20 years of experience leading enterprise-wide strategic planning and transformation across complex healthcare organizations including integrated delivery systems, children’s hospitals, and academic medical centers. As a trusted advisor to senior leadership, she is known for converting complexity into clarity—translating vast data and evolving market trends into actionable, patient-centered strategies.Currently serving as Senior Vice President of System Strategy at RWJBarnabas Health, Annie leads system-level strategy across a $12B+ health system encompassing 14 hospitals, an academic partnership with Rutgers University, and a comprehensive primary care and ambulatory network. She has successfully spearheaded system growth initiatives, capital investment strategies, service line rationalization, and market expansion while aligning efforts with the organization’s academic and population health missions. Annie also supports the development of strategic planning materials presented to the system board.A strategic thought leader, Annie has served as Chair of the Vizient Chief Strategy Officers Network, is a faculty member and Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and regularly presents on topics such as strategy implementation, service line design, and health equity. Her doctoral research focused on empowering leadership in strategy execution, reinforcing her expertise in aligning people, purpose, and performance at scale.Her strategic leadership has yielded measurable results—supporting value-based care delivery models, facilitating regional and service line strategic plans, systematizing physician workforce strategy, and leading efforts that reduced service duplication and improved access in underserved markets. She is also passionate about talent development and succession, having built high-performing strategy teams and mentored emerging leaders.Annie holds a Doctorate in Business Administration degree from Drexel University, dual master’s degrees in Healthcare Management and Finance from Temple University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Health Services from Saint Joseph’s University. Before joining RWJBarnabas Health in 2014, Annie was a consultant with Health Strategies & Solutions, Inc. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for more than 10 years. She remains deeply engaged in professional and civic leadership through mentorship, governance roles, and volunteer initiatives advancing health equity and access.
