Comber, GB

I am currently working on developing the filter system on the Eakin ostomy bag range. As part of this project I design, manufacture and test filter prototypes. This involves writing work instructions, risk assessments, test protocols and training users. I analyse the data found, present technical reviews and further develop tests depending on results. I develop test equipment that is used to validate and verify potential new products during its development stage, my biggest success includes commissioning a machine to assist in the long-term testing of the ostomy bags. I plan testing, secure resources and provide cost reviews. My everyday role is supporting product development programs in the technical analysis of mechanical designs and contributing to the development of new devices in line with Eakin’s development strategy.

ABOUT ANNA MCDONNELL

I\'m a IMechE chartered mechanical engineer currently working in the medical industry for Eakin Healthcare’s R&D team. I currently develop and test the filter system for Eakin’s ostomy bags, as well as designing new test equipment to validate products during the development stage. Before this role I was part of the United States – Northern Ireland Mentorship Program; a highly competitive and challenging program that develops Northern Ireland’s future leaders. I was selected by Mondelēz International PLC; one of the world\'s largest snacks companies in the USA, to complete a one-year engineering contract as an engineer (time split between Simulation & Modelling and Data Science) in the newly formed Global Modelling & Simulation team to reduce physical trials. Previously I worked as a mechanical engineer for 3.5 years at Cobham PLC; a large defence aerospace company. I completed their 2-year Graduate Development Programme gaining experience in engineering, programme management and operations including securing a prestigious 6-month international placement in America. I was then promoted to a full time Mechanical Engineer role in the air to air refuelling structures team, responsible for the integration, verification, and production of structural components for air to air refuelling systemsI am extremely enthusiastic, driven, creative and enjoy being challenged to develop and learn new skills. My strengths include structural mechanics, using my initiative, problem solving, communicating and contributing as part of a team. Having worked in the USA I gained many important skills namely international communication skills and adapting to different working cultures.
