About Anna M. Michalak
Having spent many years exploring the interplay between human action, the Earth’s water and carbon cycles, and climate I now want to narrow the gap between knowledge and action by enabling and scaling solutions for climate. I am also passionate about developing tools for empowering individuals to effect change and enable a sustainable future. I lead a department where we focus on addressing knowledge gaps that can inform management of the Earth system on time scales compatible with the climate, energy, food security, and water security crises facing the planet. These range from energy transition, to global food production, to sustainable water supply, to natural climate solutions. My own research has focused on developing approaches for tracking natural and human emissions of greenhouse gases at urban to global scales and on assessing climate change impacts on freshwater and coastal water quality. We use big data and big science to solve big problems.
