About Anna Hagstrom

I joined the Strategic Analysis team within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)\'s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in September 2021 as an American Association for the Advancement of Science Science & Technology Policy Fellow. As the inaugural Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering (CASE) Science and Technology Policy Fellow, I worked to bridge environmental science and state-level public policy. From April 2019 to June 2021, I was placed in the Remediation Division of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). My work at DEEP focused on crafting and implementing policies for managing a class of emerging contaminants called PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in order to protect public health and the environment. I completed a PhD in chemical and environmental engineering at Yale University in 2018. My doctoral research focused on developing materials that improve the efficiencies of solar cells and photocatalytic pollutant-degrading devices by expanding the fraction of the visible light spectrum that they are able to absorb.
