ABOUT ANNA CUOMO
I am an EMBO Postdoctoral researcher at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research (Australia) in the laboratories of Drs. Joseph Powell and Daniel MacArthur. Previously, I obtained my PhD in Statistical Genetics at the University of Cambridge and the EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute (UK), under the supervision of Drs. Oliver Stegle and John Marioni, followed by postdoctoral training at the Wellcome Sanger Institute (UK) in Prof. Nicole Soranzo’s group. My research is concerned with the development of integrative statistical models to link DNA variants to single cell expression profiles, to uncover molecular mechanisms that might help unravelling the genotype-phenotype map. As part of this effort, I have contributed to the analysis of datasets from the HipSci (Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Initiative), the HCA (Human Cell Atlas) and the sc-eQTL Gen (single-cell eQTL genetics) consortia. I am currently leading the analysis of data from phase 1 of the TenK10K project, where I study the effects of common, rare and structural genetic variants called from whole genome sequencing on single-cell expression profiles from immune cells collected from over Australian individuals.
